Individual electrician licenses and electrical-contractor business licenses have different renewal requirements. Use the matching section below, then confirm current details with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
01 / Individual licenses
Journeyman and Master Electrician licenses each have a one-year term and renew annually. Both license types require four continuing-education hours during each license cycle before renewal. Complete the hours during the license term through a registered TDLR provider. The coursework addresses the National Electrical Code (NEC), Texas Electrician Law, Texas Electrician Administrative Rules, and NFPA 70E safety; TDLR does not specify a fixed number of hours for each subject. 02 / Business license
This is the contractor business license, separate from an individual Master or Journeyman Electrician license. TDLR lists a $110 online renewal fee. A Master Electrician is generally assigned to one Electrical Contractor unless the electrician owns more than 50% of the business. TDLR must be told when the master of record changes. TDLR contractor requirements (opens TDLR in a new tab).

03 / Other license types
